Missouri Governor Nixon changes Cuba travel plans

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is no longer traveling to Havana, Cuba, Sunday with members of the U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba (USACC).  Because of the death of State Auditor Tom Schweich, the governor has changed his plans and is sending First Lady Georganne Nixon on his behalf.  Among the 30-member delegation from Missouri is Missouri Agriculture Director Richard Fordyce, along with representatives of several Missouri farm groups.

The Missouri delegation is part of the larger U.S. Agriculture Coalition for Cuba, which includes 95 government officials, industry representatives, and ag leaders.  The coalition also includes two former U.S. Secretaries of Agriculture.

The First Lady will meet with Cuban officials, including the ministries of agriculture, tourism, trade and foreign affairs.  The First Lady will also meet with Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis, the Chief of Mission at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, according to a news release issued by the governor’s office.
