Defending ethanol ‘a never-ending struggle’

The latest attempt in Congress to weaken the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) leaves Jerry Mohr shaking his head.

Like many corn growers, Mohr—a farmer from Eldridge, Iowa and president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association—is frustrated by the introduction of a Senate bill called the Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act.

“It’s obviously introduced by people who don’t understand how good ethanol is for this country,” Mohr says. “They don’t understand the clean air and the option of giving this country another fuel that’s renewable and that we don’t have to defend against—and it provides over 850-thousand jobs in this country.”

Mohr says defending ethanol and the RFS is a never-ending battle.

“It’s always a slow process to bring people along, especially elected officials,” he says, “and we’re fighting Big Oil—and when you’re fighting Big Oil, that’s a never-ending struggle that we go through.”

Mohr made those comments in an interview with Brownfield at Commodity Classic in Phoenix.
