NCBA encourages dietary guideline comments

beef plateThe North American Meat Institute (NAMI) is asking for an extension of the 45-day comment period for the scientific report of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

NAMI says giving stakeholders just 45 days to review the 571-page report, along with all of the evidence that the panel relied upon, does not allow adequate time for thorough review and input. The group wants a 120-day comment period.

Meanwhile, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) is urging producers and consumers to submit comments on the dietary guidelines report. Kristina Butts, NCBA executive director of legislative affairs, says it’s important that producers make their voices heard.

“The comment period right now is open through April 8th,” Butt says, “and you can go to NCBA’s web site, which is BeefUSA.org and actually submit comments directly to the Federal Register.”

NCBA says the committee’s recommendation that a healthy dietary pattern should be lower in red meat is not consistent with scientific evidence and is “unsound dietary advice”.

These government entities have just become as big of enemy to beef producers as either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Dietetic Association (ADA).  Both have recommended for years that American should eat less beef.
Now our “astute” checkoff folks have paid a ransom to the AHA.

My question is WHY??? do beef folks……and checkoff dollars continue to support the enemies of beef?
