Hershey is the latest company to announce a switch to non-GMO ingredients.  The company announced it intends to remove genetically-modified ingredients from its Milk Chocolate and Kisses by the end of 2015.

In a release, the company said they are “looking to formulate new products and transition existing products to deliver on no artificial flavors, no synthetic colors, no high fructose corn-syrup, and to be gluten-free.”  The company says it will switch from using GM sugar beets to cane sugar and will shift to a non-GMO soy lecithin.

According to ConfectionaryNews.com, the company will also transition to natural vanilla, non-GM sugar, and milk from cows that have not been treated with rBST for its Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Kisses.

  • No more Hershey’s for me. I thought you would use science and see there is no difference in the use of GMO ingredients. I’m sure you will push for price increases for your products. Thanks proud US farmer sustainable using GMO seeds.

  • Well stated Brian, like you will cease purchasing Hershey products. Clearly non-scientific based and believe they should publish the scientific health reasons for their decision based on fact not opinions. I throw the challenge flag to Hersey Corporation to justify this decision with facts and publicize. My bet based on consumer opinion $$$ to corporation.

  • This is very sad to see! Hershey has been around for so long and should know more than anyone…that in order to survive and provide you must adapt to change. modern agriculture should not take the brunt of that blow by bad marketing choices. Jump off the non-GM band wagon…support Americas innovation and 100’s of yrs of development to provide for American people.

  • Well done Hershey. The numerous studies published (pubmed.org) testify to the health benifits of using natural food instead of GMO’s. GMO’s and the toxins (roundup) on and sucked up into them are deadly and directly cause disease. I applaud this company for taking the stand to use real food ingredients in their food. For those of you who want GMO’s, my advice is to keep stuffing yourself with them, soon your opinion won’t matter because you will be dead.

  • Good move for Hershey’s. I will begin eating their products again when they are non GMO and non synthetic. I really try to consume only organic chocolate in order to avoid the poison and carcinogens.

  • Go Hershey!!!
The biotech industry uses “tobacco science” to claim product safety. Biotech companies like Monsanto told us that Agent Orange, PCBs, and DDT were safe. They are now using the same type of superficial, rigged research to try and convince us that GMOs are safe. Industry-funded research is designed to avoid finding problems, and adverse findings are distorted or denied.
