Penalties levied in Wisconsin raw milk case

Wisconsin dairy producers Roland and Diana Reed have agreed to penalties for distribution of unpasteurized milk. The Pepin County farmers provided raw milk for a potluck meal for the Durand High School football team last September.  Thirty-two students and coaches became ill from foodborne Campylobacter traced to the milk.

The Reeds will have their Grade A permit suspended for 30 days. If the farm violates the conditions of the agreement within three years, the Grade A permit would be suspended for 150 days.  Any additional violation would result in revocation of the Grade A permit for at least six months after which they would have to reapply for Grade A status.
