Senators call on EPA to finalize RVOs

A bipartisan group of 32 senators have sent a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy urging the agency to release Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) for 2014-2016.

Even though the Renewable Fuels Standard requires EPA establish annual RVOs for biodiesel producers 14 months in advance, EPA has not released standards since 2013.

The Senators note that without the standards, almost 80 percent of U.S. biodiesel producers have been forced to reduce production, costing jobs and economic productivity.

“Without timely fuel standards, biodiesel manufacturers are unable to plan for future production, hindering their capacity for growth,” said U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH). “I urge the EPA to swiftly address this issue so producers have a reliable forecast for the biodiesel market.”
