New fungicide for soybeans approved
A new fungicide for soybean growers has received federal registration from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Priaxor® D fungicide is made by BASF. Megan Andriankaja, a technical marketing specialist for the company, tells Brownfield Ag News, “We’ve seen great control with Priaxor D fungicide on soybeans in some recent trials in the mid-South. What we did was we used a 10-point scale to measure disease severity. And in these mid-South field trials, the acres that were treated with Priaxor D only had a 1.8 severity of strobilurin-resistant frogeye leaf spot.”
While most common in the mid-South states, she says, that resistant frogeye leafspot disease has been found in Illinois and Indiana. Planting a resistant soybean variety, she adds, is the best line of defense.
Priaxor D state registration is expected in time for the 2015 growing season.
