The America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders program provides scholarships to high school seniors and college students pursuing degrees in agriculture.

Elizabeth Vancil, a youth and community outreach manager for the Monsanto Fund says the agriculture industry needs diverse and qualified talent to be successful in the future.  “Making sure those young students obtain that college education and pursue the skills necessary to be successful is important to all of us,” she says.  “We’re just so thrilled to support the next generation that is staying in ag.”

The program will provide $1,500 scholarships in 40 states. The deadline to apply is February 1st.

But, Vancil tells Brownfield another key component of the program is that students connect with an area farmer.  “They have to get that farmer to endorse their application,” she says.  “Farmers have until February 8, 2015.”
