West Coast truck chassis issue resolved

Reports are a tentative agreement has been reached on one of the major sticking points in the West Coast dock workers dispute. The Long Beach Press says the Pacific Maritime Association representing shippers and terminal operators and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have come to terms on maintaining truck chassis at 29 West Coast ports.  Cargo has been piling-up in part because there have not been enough truck chassis available to haul containers once they are taken off the ships.

Work has slowed at the ports since the union contract expired seven months ago, the hope is this development will lead to a full agreement in the near future.

Citing a Pacific Maritime Association report; Bloomberg Business says cargo entering and exiting the 29 West Coast ports accounted for 12.5 percent of the total U.S. gross domestic product last year.
