USDA organic survey underway

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting a survey of organic agriculture in the United States. The survey seeks to get a complete inventory of all certified organic producers, those transitioning to certified production and those exempt from certification.

The survey looks at many aspects of organic agriculture during the 2014 calendar year including production, marketing practices, income and expenses. It also considers the future of organic production by including those transitioning to certified organic agriculture.

Producers who receive one of the surveys are required by law to respond by April 3, 2015. They can return the form by mail or fill out a survey online through a secure website: www.agcensus.usda.gov.  All information is confidential and will be used to develop programs and services for organic production.

To learn more about the survey, USDA will host a webinar this Thursday, January 29th from 3:30 to 4:30 pm ET to provide information and answer questions. The webinar is free and no pre-registration is required.  Webinar participation details are available at Brownfield Ag News dot com.
