RCPP important step for Lake Erie

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur in Toledo for funding announcement (3)_web

Ohio’s 9th District Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur says the $17.5 million dollars awarded as part of the USDA’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) to the Tri-States (Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan) provides the opportunity to fix the cause of nutrient loading and algae blooms in Lake Erie.

Kaptur says the conservation focus of the Tri-State proposal is vital.

“We must use these dollars as quickly as possible to stem the nutrient flow that is coming from the largest watershed in the Great Lakes, that extends west to Ft. Wayne, south to Findlay, east to Sandusky Bay and up into Senator Stabenow’s Michigan,” Kaptur said. “And we need a structure, which this Regional Conservation Partnership gives us to solve the problem.”

In addition to the federal funding, the Tri-State project will leverage over $36 million in private and non-profit funding from participating partners.
