H.S.U.S launches Wisconsin Ag Council

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has launched a State Agriculture Council in Wisconsin. The group cites the rapid increase in the number of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) as the reason they are organizing in the Badger State.

“Comprised of local farmers and agriculturalists, the HSUS Wisconsin Agriculture Council will work to promote humane and sustainable agriculture in Wisconsin. This includes assisting other family farmers with marketing opportunities for humane and sustainable products and helping fellow farmers transition to practices that adhere to higher animal welfare standards.”

Members of the Wisconsin Council are: Genie Metoyer with Fresh For Life Organics at Richford; Lea Dolan Stroncek with Seven Seeds Organic Farm at Spring Green: Mike Miles with Anathoth Community Farm at Luck and Rhonda Carrell who lives in south Wood County and founded a citizens group to oppose construction of a large dairy farm in the area.

HSUS already has State Agriculture Councils in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Colorado.
