Ethanol production, stocks increase

ethanol plant-emmetsburgThe latest ethanol production figures from the federal government, for the week ending January 9th, show an uptick in production.

During that week, production averaged 978-thousand barrels per day, up 29-thousand from the week before.

Ethanol stocks continued to grow. Stocks increased seven percent from the previous week, to 20.2 million barrels.  That the highest level since January of 2013.

The ethanol advocacy group Growth Energy notes that U.S. gasoline demand during the first full week of January was up 11 percent from the same week last year.  But the group says ethanol usage by blenders and refiners continued to disappoint, coming in at only 815-thousand barrels per day.
