Big farm tractor sales down last year

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) says total farm tractor sales were up 3 percent last year at 201,770 units. But the increase was in two-wheel-drive tractors with less than 100 horsepower.

There were more than 100,600 two-wheel-drives under 40 horsepower sold up nearly 9 percent from the previous year. Sales of two-wheel-drives with 40 to 99 horsepower increased more than 7 percent to 57,000 units.

Two-wheel-drives with more than 100 horsepower totaled 37,000 sales down more than 13.5 percent from 2013.

Four-wheel-drive tractor sales were down 26 percent from the previous year at 6,900 units. Four-wheel-drive sales in December were down 49 percent compared to December of 2013.

Self-propelled combine sales totaled 10,753 machines in 2014 down nearly 26 percent from the previous year. December combine sales dropped 40 percent from December of 2013.
