EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy has chosen a Colorado state agriculture official to advise the agency on farm policy.  Ron Carleton, deputy commissioner for the Colorado Ag Department since 2012, will serve as the EPA liaison to farmers and ranchers.

Carleton has an extensive background on Capitol Hill handling agriculture, environment, and related issues.  He spent six years as chief of staff to then-Congressman John Salazar of Colorado who is now Colorado’s Ag director.

According to Greenwire, “Carleton’s work in Colorado was instrumental in crafting and implementing regulations for the farming of hemp. He also worked on drought, farm bill implementation and food safety issues, as well as EPA’s controversial Waters of the United States proposal.”
