Milk prices should hold steady in India

The largest milk cooperative in the largest milk-producing country in the world says prices will remain steady in 2015. India’s Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation tells its more than 3 million farmer-owners after increases of 10 to 12 percent the last two years, declining exports will keep farm milk prices about steady in the coming year.  Skim milk powder exports are down 60 percent from a year ago.

The government of India launched an effort to increase milk production and production per animal in 2012 to meet growing domestic demand. Milk production in India is running about 14 percent above year-ago levels at over 130 million metric tonnes annually. (286.6 billion pounds U.S.)
