Weather

A very mild pattern across the Heartland

During the next few days, storminess will be mostly limited to the Northeast and the Pacific Coast States. For the remainder of Tuesday and Wednesday, wintry precipitation will continue across the interior Northeast, while rain will fall along and near the northern and middle Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile, heavy precipitation in the Pacific Northwest will shift southward at mid-week, resulting in some 4- to 8-inch totals across northern California tomorrow and Thursday. Toward week’s end, rain and snow showers will linger in the Northeast, while precipitation will spread across the remainder of the West. However, amounts outside of northern California and the Pacific Northwest will be mostly 1 to 2 inches or less. Elsewhere, mild, mostly dry weather across the nation’s mid-section will push late-week temperatures to near 70° as far north as southwestern South Dakota.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook for calls for above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions across Florida’s peninsula. Meanwhile, near- to above-normal precipitation across the majority of the U.S. will contrast with drier-than- normal weather in southern Florida and across the nation’s northern tier from the northern Rockies into the Northeast.
