Weather

A very mild pattern for the Heartland

A broad area of rain stretching from the central Plains into the Ohio and middle Mississippi Valleys will shift eastward, reaching the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern States on Saturday. Meanwhile along the West Coast, weekend precipitation will occur as far south as the northern half of California. Early next week, additional heavy precipitation will overspread the Pacific Northwest, barely clipping northern California, while stormy weather has the potential to linger or redevelop along the Atlantic Seaboard. The majority of the U.S. will experience above-normal temperatures during the next 5 days, although the eastern U.S.—particularly east of the Appalachians—will be prone to lingering cool conditions.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for warmer-than-normal weather nationwide, except for near- to below-normal temperatures in the southern Atlantic States. Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation across the northern Plains and east of the Mississippi River will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions across the southeastern Plains and the western U.S.
