MPP signup deadline extended
USDA is extending the deadline for enrollment in the Margin Protection Program (MPP) to December 19th. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says this is a very hectic time of the year and “an additional two weeks may give producers the ability to learn more about the program.” He says the recent decline in dairy prices and indications that slide will continue may also spur some producers to “rethink an earlier decision they had made not to participate.” The Secretary also notes that for those who sign up now, there will be a 1-percent increase in production history to reflect the national increase in production per cow.
USDA is also still accepting comments through December 12th on the program rules regarding bringing another family member into a dairy operation.
