Mild weather to dominate the Nation

Wet weather in California and elsewhere in the West will gradually wane during the next couple of days, with lingering showers shifting into the Pacific Northwest by week’s end. Meanwhile, a new area of precipitation will develop across the southeastern Plains and mid-South, eventually expanding across the South, East, and lower Midwest. In contrast, dry weather will prevail across the northern Plains and upper Midwest. A general warming trend will boost temperatures to near- or above-normal levels nationwide by the weekend.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for warmer-than-normal weather nationwide, except for near-normal temperatures across the lower Southeast. Meanwhile, near- to below-normal precipitation across the majority of the U.S. will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in Texas, New England, and the Pacific Coast States.
