Much-needed moisture for California
Across the Corn Belt, mostly dry weather accompanies near- to below-normal temperatures. A few patches of freezing rain dot the lower Great Lakes region, particularly across Ohio. On November 30, the corn harvest was 93% complete in Ohio, along with 78% in Wisconsin and 77% in Michigan.
On the Plains, dry conditions favor late-season fieldwork, including cotton harvesting in West Texas and surrounding areas. Mild weather is returning to the High Plains from Nebraska southward, but cold weather lingers across Montana and the Dakotas.
In the South, rain showers in the vicinity of a cold front stretch from the southern Mid-Atlantic States to the lower Mississippi Valley. Elsewhere, cold weather prevails in the mid-South, while warm, dry weather is promoting late-Autumn fieldwork across the lower Southeast.
In the West, the most impressive precipitation event of the season to date is underway in California. Significant rain is moving inland along the Pacific Coast from San Francisco Bay southward nearly to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, warmth prevails from California to the central and southern Rockies, but cold, dry weather lingers from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies.
