The two Presidential turkeys have made the trip from Mercer County Ohio to Washington, D.C.

Cole Cooper of Cooper Farms has been the caretaker of the Presidential Turkey Flock, raising the birds from the time they were hatched until now, 20 weeks later.

So what was the process to select the two turkeys to make the trip?

“The other night I was standing in here, just talking to them, I spend a lot of time in here by myself with the birds, which is probably weird to most people,” Cole said. “But I actually had two of them walk up to me, almost like ‘hey, I’m here, let’s go,’ and they were two of my prettiest looking birds in here.”

On Wednesday, November 26, Gary Cooper, Chief Operating Officer of Cooper Farms and Chairman of the National Turkey Federation will present President Obama with the National Thanksgiving Turkey. So who’s going to be the most nervous, Cole Cooper or the Presidential Turkey?

“Probably Cole Cooper, the birds are gonna be fine, they’ll do what they are supposed to do,” said Cole. “It’s just making sure that I don’t fumble anything.”
