ADM sues Syngenta over MIR162

ADM port

Add ADM to the list of those filing suit against Syngenta for selling Agrisure Viptera without Chinese approval. Archer-Daniels-Midland filed the suit in Louisiana on Wednesday charging Syngenta with selling the genetically modified MIR162 variety without enacting reasonable stewardship practices to ensure it would not be shipped to markets which had not approved it.

China has rejected a number of loads of corn from the U.S. because they contained the unapproved variety. ADM joins Cargill and Trans Coastal Supply in seeking damages resulting from the Chinese rejections.  A number of farmers are also involved in coordinated lawsuits against Syngenta alleging the rejections caused a drop in the U.S. corn price.

Syngenta says the lawsuits are without merit. The company says they followed proper protocols when releasing Viptera and China accepted shipments containing the variety for two years before they started rejecting it a year ago.
