Soybean price better than expected

Programs ICONSoybean prices are down a lot from a few years ago but American Soybean Association chairman Danny Murphy likes the current upward trend…

“I guess it’s really been surprising at the strength the market’s shown. Probably six weeks ago, we were at about 9-and-a-half or so and really thought beans would be 8-and-a-half but today they’re close to 10-dollars-and-a-half.”

Murphy tells Brownfield that’s a sign of good demand, “Demand for meal and demand for soybeans exports really helped boost that price back up and maybe giving growers another opportunity to get at least a better price than they thought they would have had a few weeks ago.” China is the biggest consumer of U.S. beans.

Brownfield talked with Murphy, a Mississippi soybean grower, at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting convention in Kansas City, Missouri.
