Global Dairy Trade index declines further

Global Dairy Trade Auction this morning saw the overall price decline another 3.1 percent from the November 4th sale.  We did see a 1.4 percent increase in the butter milk powder price, cheddar cheese increased 5 percent, butter was 6 percent higher and anhydrous milk fat 6.1 percent above the last auction.  But that was not enough to offset a 5.1 percent decline in whole milk powder, 5.7 percent drop in the skim milk powder price and a 12.2 percent plunge in rennet casein.  No lactose or sweet whey powder was offered.

The overall GDT price index slips to 747, it has been steadily declining since February and is now the lowest it has been since August of 2009.

The GDT auction is conducted the first and third Tuesdays of the month and is an indicator of global dairy product prices. Dairy processing companies from the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Europe and India can offer nine different products for sale.
