Wind energy transmission line hearing in Missouri

Programs ICONA wind energy company has proposed a 750-mile overhead transmission line to deliver wind energy to 14 states including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

A hearing this week by the Missouri Public Service Commission let opponents and supporters of the Grain Belt Express speak out about the line in Missouri. The line would start with wind turbines in Kansas, moving the direct current eastward.

Terry Jarrett is the attorney representing Show-Me Concerned Landowners and Missouri Farm Bureau. Jarrett testified at the hearing that, “Grain Belt’s proposed route goes through some of the most rich and productive farmland in the country, not just Missouri.” The Sierra Club is one of the groups that supports the project.

The Show-Me group is made up of 100 landowners and 300 non-landowner members on the Grain Belt Express route. The proposal comes from Clean Line Energy Partners of Houston, Texas.
