Group housing for dairy calves

One of the important aspects of a successful dairy farm is raising good replacements and that starts with calves.  While individual calf hutches have proven to be a good way to raise healthy calves, they are also very labor intensive and in the dead of winter, very tough work.  Among the alternatives are individual pens inside a larger, well-ventilated building or groups of calves within a large, well-ventilated building.  Dr. Sandra Godden has been researching facilities and automatic feeders at the University of Minnesota.  She talks about the group housing with automatic feeders.
