Comment period extended on Argentine beef
The USDA is extending the comment period for its proposed rule allowing imports of fresh beef from a region of northern Argentina.
Many cattle groups and members of Congress oppose the proposal because there’s been Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in that region of the South American country and they believe it’s too much of a risk to the U.S. cattle herd.
The new deadline for comments made to the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is through December 29 (2014).
The last case of FMD in the United States originated in Argentina.
