A mixed week in the dairy markets

At the close of trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on Friday, cash cheese barrels increased 4.5 cents, blocks gained a half-cent while there was no activity in butter and nonfat dry milk.

For the week, cash cheese barrels up 18.75 cents, blocks unchanged, butter increased 8 cents while nonfat dry milk lost a half-cent.  November Class III futures increased 46 cents, December added 36 cents, January gained 2 cents and April lost a penny.

The October all-milk price down 40 cents at $25.30 per hundredweight.  The October Milk-to-Feed ratio is 3.07 compared to 2.97 in September and 2.1 in October of last year.

The weighted average advertised price of a half-gallon of organic milk is $3.32 down 15 cents from two weeks ago.  A half-gallon of conventional milk sold for an average $2.30 putting the organic-to-conventional spread at $1.02 down 61 cents from two weeks ago.  A year ago the spread was $2.08.
