Missouri soybean harvest nears 50%

JaySchutte2It was warm and dry in Missouri last week helping corn harvest progress 10 percentage points and soybean harvest increased by more than 20 percent from the week before. The state ag statistics office says corn harvest was 68 percent complete as of Sunday and soybean harvest was at 46 percent.  Both are 13 percent behind the average.

Mexico, Missouri farmer Jay Schutte told Brownfield on Friday that some moisture last week slowed things down for his soybean harvest, “We had a small rain Thursday – like 3/100ths of an inch so it wasn’t much but it was like a good heavy dew so we had to stop harvest for a while. Then this morning (Friday) we had a pretty heavy fog, so, that has stopped us. But, we’re thankfully back in the field now and running again.”

His soybeans were about 30 percent harvested. All his corn is out.

The average corn moisture at harvest in Missouri was 16 percent. Winter wheat planting and emergence are ahead.  Rice harvest is on pace but cotton harvest is behind.
