A change in weather ahead

During the early- to mid-week period, a fast-moving cold front will generate scattered showers from the nation’s mid-section into the eastern U.S. Rainfall across the eastern half of the U.S. will total mostly an inch or less. Farther west, two round of significant precipitation will overspread the Pacific Northwest, where 5-day totals could reach 2 to 5 inches. Late in the week, showers will reach northern California, where totals of 1 to 2 inches will be possible. Mild weather will cover much of the nation until week’s end, when sharply colder air will arrive in areas from the Mississippi Valley to the East Coast. Widespread freezes can be expected during the weekend across the Midwestern, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeastern States.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook for November 1-5 calls for below-normal temperatures in the eastern U.S. and the western Great Basin, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail across most of the western two-thirds of the U.S. Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation in the Southeast and portions of the Plains and Southwest will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions from the southeastern Plains into the Midwest, and from the Pacific Coast to the Intermountain West.
