Brazil positioning to produce more beef

Rabobank

A new report says Brazil is positioning to meet growing global demand for beef.  Rabobank’s Food and Agribusiness Research and Advisory group (FAR) predicts Brazil will double its feedlot capacity to 4.5 million head turning out over 9 million fed cattle annually and increasing beef production by 2.5 million tons per year by 2023.

The increase in feedlot capacity will also mean increased feed efficiency.  Currently less than 10 percent of Brazil’s cattle go through feedlots.  Rabobank says Brazil has “unmatched potential for expanding corn and soybean production” meaning more feed for the feedlots and more cattle going through them.  The result is expected to be heavier cattle coming out of the feedlots at a younger age.

Brazil is currently the world’s second-largest beef producer and largest beef exporter.
