Ohio Cattlemen sign letter to Vilsack

OCA office sign (2)

The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) has joined State Beef Association’s from across the country, sending a letter to Agriculture Secretary Vilsack opposing a second national beef checkoff.

Elizabeth Harsh, Executive Director of the OCA compares the Secretary’s proposal to the EPA’s Water’s of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule.

“It’s another example of government over-reach if you will, in terms of an approach to a situation rather than letting industries sort things out,” Harsh said.

Rather than add confusion, the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director says cattlemen are urging the Secretary to stay the course with the existing beef checkoff program.

“That has direction from grassroots producers, that 4 out 5 beef producers support, and returns $11.20 on every dollar invested, is the way we need to continue,” said Harsh.
