Perdue Farms settlement removes label claim

Perdue Farms has issued a news release with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) saying they are pleased a settlement has been reached concerning Perdue Chicken labeling.

Class action cases filed in 2010 and 2013 by consumers claimed Perdue’s use of “humanely raised” on the packaging of its Harvestland brand chicken was misleading.

Perdue says the allegations are not true and its labels are NOT misleading. But, after defending itself against the allegations, the company has agreed to stop using the labels. Perdue farms says it is “committed to treating animals with respect and to ensure their health and safety.” The company is a leading U.S. chicken processor based in Salisbury, Maryland.

The HSUS declined Brownfield’s request for an interview.  Our interview request of Perdue Farms is pending.
