Total tractor sales up
While sales of four-wheel-drives were down, total farm tractor sales were up 21.4 percent in September compared to a year ago. 18,935 units were sold of which 415 were four-wheel-drives down from 526 sold last September. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers says sales of 100-plus two-wheel-drives were down 6.5 percent at 2,774 tractors. 40-to-100 horsepower sales were up 28 percent at 5,646 units and sales of two-wheel-drives with less than 40 horsepower totaled 10,100 up 31 percent from September of 2013.
Year-to-date total tractor sales are up 4.6 percent compared to January-through-September of 2013. Four-wheel-drive sales are down 15 percent, 100-plus two-wheel-drive sales are 8.6 percent lower while 40-to-100 horse two-wheel-drive sales are 7 percent above a year ago and less-than-40 horsepower two-wheel-drive sales are 8.7 percent higher. More than half of the total tractors sold are less-than-40 horsepower two-wheel-drives.
Self-propelled combine sales totaled 867 in September, down 15.6 percent from a year ago. Year-to-date self-propelled combine sales are off 17 percent with 6,575 units sold.
