Weather

A wet pattern for much of the Corn Belt

During the first half of the week, scattered showers (locally 1 to 2 inches) will affect the South, East, and lower Midwest. By mid-week, rainfall associated with the remnants of eastern Pacific Hurricane Simon will spread into the Southwest. The tropical moisture will begin to interact with a cold front, leading to possibly heavy late-week rainfall from the central and southern Plains into the Ohio Valley. In contrast, dry weather will prevail through week’s end from California to the northern Intermountain West. Elsewhere, generally cool conditions will linger through the end of the week in the Great Lakes and Northeastern States, while warmth will dominate the South and West.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- to above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in the upper Midwest. Meanwhile, above-normal rainfall in the eastern U.S. and near- to above-normal precipitation in the central U.S. will contrast with drier-than-normal weather in much of the West.
