Harvest data is critical to decisions for next year

For southwest Indiana farmer Joe Steinkamp harvest is a great time to think about the decisions he needs to make for the next growing season.  “I’m thinking about which hybrids are performing well on which soil types,” he says.  “And then monitoring which fertility plans are doing well all while I’m tracking the varieties on my combine yield monitor as I go through the field.”

And, he’s also keeping a close eye on grain prices this fall.  “And I’m thinking ‘Oh my goodness I’m glad I sold some corn ahead and I wish I had sold more’,” he says.  “I’m also wondering how we’re going to make the finance work well for the 2015 crop with the prices where they are.”
