Dry days allow advance of Illinois corn harvest

There wasn’t much precipitation in Illinois this past week allowing corn harvest to reach 14 percent complete, behind the 5 year average of 34 percent.  Corn is 80 percent mature, compared to 68 percent last year. Corn condition remained at 83 percent good to excellent. 68 percent of the soybeans are dropping leaves, which is up 23 percentage points from last week. Soybean harvest is 7 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 13 percent. The crop is 78 percent good to excellent. Sorghum has reached 62 percent maturity and sorghum harvest is 10 percent complete. Illinois pastures are 70 percent good to excellent. Topsoil moisture is 90 percent adequate to surplus.
