Unapproved GM wheat found in Montana

Another strain of unapproved genetically modified wheat has been found.  This time, in Montana.  According to Reuters, the announcement of a second incident comes after USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service completed its investigation into a separate discovery found in Oregon in May 2013.  APHIS was unable to determine how the GM wheat appeared.

While the occurrences are unrelated, both were engineered to be resistant to glyphosate.

USDA says the GM wheat was found at Montana State University’s Southern Agricultural Research Center in Huntley, where wheat was tested between 2000 and 2003.

USDA says they have already been in communication with trading partners regarding the latest incident.
