UNL report predicts ‘unprecedented’ changes in climate

A new University of Nebraska-Lincoln report on climate change predicts Nebraska’s climate will change dramatically in coming decades.

UNL scientists says the magnitude and rapidity of the projected changes are “unprecedented”.

The report says average temperatures in Nebraska, by the end of this century, will increase from four to nine degrees, depending on the amount of greenhouse gases humans continue to emit into the atmosphere.  And the study says that, by mid-century, hot and dry summers like that experienced in 2012  could become the norm.

The report also concludes that “human activities” are the main contributor to climate change.

The full report will be released this afternoon in conjunction with the Heuermann Lecture at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center in Lincoln.
