Indiana corn harvest 5 percent complete

Some parts of the state received a much needed break in precipitation this week, however several fields remained too saturated to harvest.

Both corn and soybeans remain in in good shape as over 70 percent are in good to excellent condition.  Overall, 89 percent of the state’s corn crop is dented, 49 percent mature, and 5 percent harvested for grain.  Fifty-three percent of soybeans have begun dropping leaves with just 1 percent harvested.  The average moisture content was 25 percent for harvested corn and 14 percent for soybeans last week.

In other crops around the state, 64 percent of the tobacco is harvested, and tomato and potato harvest is nearly complete.  Ninety-five percent of alfalfa has had its third cutting and 55 percent on its fourth cutting.
