Dean announces Field to Faucet initiative

Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has announced a $1 million dollar water quality initiative.

During the Vice President’s lunch at the Farm Science Review on Tuesday, September 16, Dean Bruce McPheron described the Field to Faucet initiative as an end-to-end solution.

“Some of the things will be short term wins, some of them we know will be longer term wins,” said McPheron. “But we have to be working on them today.”

In addition to a university-wide group to address the issue, the dean has had discussions with other Universities around the state as well as with Michigan State, Purdue, the University of Michigan and Penn State.

“We think that over the next few months we will be able to announce a series of initiatives, each involving a faculty group, likely multi-institutional, so reaching out to the Toledo’s, the Heidelberg’s the Bowling Green’s, etc., and partnering them with our own faculty to look at some short term issues, some mid-term issues and some longer term work that needs to be done,” the Dean said.

The next steps are to identify key topic areas and programs.
