Cargill enters ‘prescriptive planting’

Cargill is moving into the “prescriptive planting” business.

The company is launching a software service for farmers that will pit it against some other big agribusiness giants, like Monsanto and DuPont, in the market to use analytical tools to predict what crops to plant, and when.

Cargill began selling the service—which it calls NextField DataRx—in Minnesota and South Dakota this summer and plans a broader push over the next several years.
