Wisconsin gets rain

Some much-needed rain giving crops a boost across Wisconsin last week.  The weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service Wisconsin Field Office reports much of the state got from 1 to 3 inches.  Topsoil moisture levels are 77 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus, a week ago it was 53 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.  Some areas report too much rain, Rusk County got 10 inches over the last week, Kewaunee County reports more than 7 inches this month.

95 percent of the Wisconsin corn crop has silked, 53 percent is at least in dough stage and 10 percent is dented.  All are marked improvements over last week but still behind the five-year average for this date.  The corn crop is rated 68 percent good to excellent condition.

Wisconsin soybeans are 69 percent good to excellent condition.  96 percent are blooming and 88 percent setting pods, about equal to the five-year average.

64 percent of the oats-for-grain is harvested, should be 86 percent by now.  93 percent of the winter wheat is combined and 68 percent of the third-crop alfalfa is in.
