Added value for Indiana soybean farmers

After losing market share, the soybean oil industry has been actively working to make its way back into the kitchen.  DuPont Pioneer executive vice president Jim Borel says Plenish high-oleic soybean oil can hopefully change that and provide farmers with added benefit. “It’s a zero trans-fat product that’s stable in the fryer – it has good frying characteristics and good health characteristics,” he says.  “And from a farmer’s point of view there is no penalty.  They get the same kind of yield and performance at a premium value.”

Indiana Soybean Association CEO Jane Ade Stevens says high-oleic beans are an excellent opportunity for Indiana farmers.  “There is a premium for farmers that grow it and along with the premium we’re not seeing a yield drag,” she says.  “It’s a great opportunity for farmers to try a new soybean.  And it’s critical that we get this bean out into the marketplace from a food industry standpoint.”

And one place you can find Plenish high-oleic soybean oil being used – is at the Dairy Bar during the Indiana State Fair.
