Boar sets record at Summer Type Conference

It was a successful day for a Western Illinois University professor and his family at the National Swine Registry’s Summer Type Conference.  Mark Hoge and his family sold their Class1 Yorkshire boar for a world-record price of $270,000.

Hoge says the experience was humbling for his family.  “The boar was a result of years of mating decisions and selection experience,” he says.  “We were very surprised he sold for that price, but I knew people really liked him.  We are very fortunate and thankful for the showpig industry.”

The record-setting boar was sold to Genetic Edge & Reynolds Farm out of Ohio.
