Poultry operation proposed in southeast Nebraska

A Blue Springs couple has asked the Gage County board of supervisors for permission to construct a large-scale poultry operation east of that southeast Nebraska community.

According to the Beatrice Daily Sun, the project proposed by James and Marie Zimmerman would consist of six barns, each capable of housing 26-thousand birds.

The Zimmermans discussed their plans at a recent board meeting and public hearing. They talked about the economic benefits the enterprise would bring to the community and the county. They also discussed the modern technology they will use to control odor.

According to the newspaper report, no members of the board of supervisors expressed opposition to the plan. The board is expected to vote on the special use permit request at a July 23rd meeting.
