May cheese and butter exports

U.S. cheese exports totaled 70.1 million pounds in May up 15.5 percent compared to a year ago. However, total and cheddar cheese exports were below the previous month for the second month in a row…a trend which bears watching. 7.3 percent of the total cheese produced in the U.S. in May was exported. Year-to-date total cheese exports are up 34 percent from a year ago by volume and up 36 percent by value.

Butter exports totaled 10.6 million pounds in May, down 12 percent from a year ago and nearly 39 percent below April’s sales. 6.4 percent of the total butter produced in the U.S. in May was exported. Year-to-date butter exports are up nearly 64 percent by volume and 68 percent higher by value.
