Conservation funds for Red River Basin

Up to $50 million dollars of conservation funding from the Farm Bill has been targeted for the next five years for the Red River Basin in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.  The objective is to minimize flooding, improve soil health and water quality and enhance wildlife habitat in the 25-million acre watershed.

The funds will be distributed through the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, NRC, providing “financial incentives to landowners, ranchers and farmers who make conservation efforts, such as restoring and protecting wetlands and grasslands.”
