Crop emergence in Indiana ahead of avg.

Indiana’s corn and soybean crops are feeling the effects of recent rains.

For the week ending Sunday, June 15, emergence of the Indiana corn crop was 95 percent, up one point over the 5-year average. 76 percent of the Indiana corn crop is in fair-to-good condition.

91 percent of the soybean crop has been planted, one point ahead of the 5-year average. Ponding is causing some replanting. 85 percent of the Indiana soybean crop has emerged, seven points ahead of the 5-year average, 81 percent of the crop is in fair-to-good condition.

Wheat harvest is just beginning in southern Indiana. Statewide, 96 percent of the crop is headed, 46 percent is turning color and 13 percent of the crop is mature. As of Sunday, 79 percent of the wheat was in fair-to-good condition.

First cutting of alfalfa hay is 78 percent complete. Pastures in the state are rated 77 percent fair-to-good.

Topsoil moisture is 95 percent adequate to surplus.
